Dental implants are considered the best option for replacing missing teeth due to their strength, stability, and longevity. At the same time, the implant process can be lengthy, taking six months or longer to complete. At Dentistry at LaSalle, Burlington, Ontario, you work with Dr. Abhishek Apratim and Dr. Sam Gupta for implant treatment. Knowing what to expect from this treatment and how to care for your implants after surgery can help you recover smoothly.
Implants comprise a titanium post, an abutment, and a restoration. The post is implanted into your jaw surgically, where it will fuse with your bone system, which can take three to six months to complete. Once this process is complete, an abutment is attached to hold your restoration, which can take one to two weeks to heal. Lastly, your restoration is attached, which requires no recovery time before use.
Implant care can be divided into two parts: Immediate Post-Op Care and Long-term Care.
Feeling mild pain, soreness, swelling, or minor bleeding is normal after implant surgery. These symptoms should subside in the days following your procedure.
To care for your implants:
Once the implants have fully healed, you can resume your oral care routine. Implants require the same care as your natural teeth, with brushing, flossing and routine dental cleaning. Your dentist will monitor the health of your implants to ensure no complications arise from the surgery.
