Children’s Dentistry

Toddler brushing teeth with a toothbrush promoting childrens dentistry and early oral hygiene at LaSalle

Dentistry at LaSalle makes every effort to help our youngest patients feel comfortable and confident. Our goal is to make childrenโ€™s dentistry a fun, pleasant experience in our Burlington (Aldershot) office, because a great attitude now can lay the foundation for a lifetime of great smiles.

The first visit

We recommend bringing your baby for his or her first appointment around the time the first tooth emerges. The initial includes a general tooth and gum evaluation, along with child orientation and parent education. This gives your child an opportunity to meet our staff and become familiar with the sights and sounds of a dental office. We will discuss proper at-home care, the effects of thumb sucking, avoiding baby bottle decay, and what to expect regarding your childโ€™s oral development. You are encouraged to ask any questions that you may have.

Childrenโ€™s dental treatments

We offer a full range of services, with a commitment to providing a positive dental experience. The dentist will use easy-to-understand, non-frightening terms to explain dental problems and treatment. We make sure the child is comfortable before beginning a procedure, and stop at any time the child expresses pain.

Childrenโ€™s dentistry focuses on preventive care, including:

  • Cleaning and exams
  • Sealants
  • Fluoride treatment
  • Tooth fillings
  • Hygiene education

The importance of primary teeth

One of the most common dental myths is that primary (baby) teeth arenโ€™t important because they are temporary. In fact, these teeth act as space-holders for adult teeth, and help guide healthy mouth and jaw development. They also facilitate effective chewing and proper speech. Therefore, the benefits of healthy habits and routine dental care can last for many years to come.
